“Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.” John 4:10
Often times, we are like the Samaritan woman in verse 9 (read it)…….asking God all kinds of useless questions. “Why are you talking to me?”, “Why choose me?”, “What do you want me for?” And in turn, God is telling us, “Look, if you knew who you were talking to, you’d know what to ask!”
Who are we talking to EXACTLY?!?!?? Well…let’s take a look…..
Jehovah Jireh…our provider! (Genesis 22:14)
Jehovah Shalom…our peace! (Judges 6:24)
Emmanuel…He is with us! (Matthew 1:23)
Alpha and Omega…beginning and the end! (Revelation 22:13)
El Shaddai…God Almighty! (Genesis 17:1)
El Elyon…The Most High God! (Genesis 14:19)
Jehovah Rapha…The Lord that heals us! (Exodus 15:26)
And these are only a few of God’s characteristics! If we recognize that we are talking to our provider, peace, the Almighty, Most High, our healer and understood that He WANTS to hear from us…that He is waiting to hear from us…then we sure wouldn’t ask questions which question His using us. Why? you ask…because we would then recognize that He already knows. He knows who we are and who we are not (more than even we know of ourselves). He knows what we are capable of and what we are afraid to be faced with. Even in all of that, He still offers us the privilege of coming into His presence and communing with Him. This is why I live in shock and horror every time I read how the children of Israel decided that they’d rather not speak to God for themselves but have Moses be their go between. Like…they had Him…RIGHT THERE and they would rather live the way they were living than to have the chance to hear His voice. (read Exodus chapter 20). Anyhoo…I’m back….well……..
Me…I’m too busy trying to figure out what I can do to stay here to be wasting my thousand questions on asking how I got here. I’ll be here trying to do extra credit….!!!
So…now that you know who you’re talking to…what will you ask???
